Microsoft and HP have absolutely nailed it with this. Set up is so easy it’s childs play ..almost, just plug in, walk in a circle around your “usable area” and put it on…… that’s it simple. The only downside to this system is the fixed lenses. The lenses seem to be fixed to an average pupillary distance, with it only being able to be adjusted through software (which never works that well). The setting only allows you to adjust between 58-67mm which is a pretty limited range, so its very important to Check your IPD (pupillary distance) measurement before buying. The field of vision ( fov )for the Vive and Rift are 110 degrees whereas the HP is 105 degrees, so a bit smaller but in use its not too noticeable.
The Image quality is where you want it and grip controls are spot on. Motion take a little getting used to (first 2-3 mins) but from then on your fine. Its a high quality headset with superb video quality, light weight ( only 830 grms) as well. The controllers are also very easy to use. SteamVR support takes this system to a different level and its nice to be able to bring up the windows start menu from inside VR, which itself is pretty cool and easy to navigate. I hope Microsoft continue to develop Windows MR.

SOME BUYER COMMENTS
I’m actually overwhelmed by how good this headset is! The image quality is a massive improvement when compared to the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or Gear VR. It has a noticeably higher resolution and reduced screen door effect, text is crystal clear and watching movies in VR is now really immersive with the improved image quality. The only downside to this particular mixed reality headset is the slightly reduced field of view, around 105 degrees (depending on GPU) compared to Oculus’ 110 degrees. but I believe the quality of the image itself more than makes up for that. And with SteamVR coming to Windows Mixed Reality in the coming weeks, I really think that choosing this or one of the other MR headsets over the Oculus is the smart choice right now. Especially if you want to use virtual desktop and watch movies in VR as well gaming. S. CLARK 5/5
Despite having to return this due to its maximum IPD being 67mm (maximum software ipd level), I believe that it is a very good headset and the sensor-less tracking system or rather lack of ‘external’ sensors makes this a very good headset. The screen is clear and detailed (from what i could tell from using one eye), the software while limited at the moment is very entertaining and useful. For example you can emulate your desktop in the virtual space and proceed to use it as you would normally use your computer, additionally you can also use the likes of Microsoft word in the virtual environment giving this headset a use beyond just simple entertainment. I’ve just tried this device today and I would have to say the experience was amazing. Visual images are excellent and you really feel as if you are in the middle of the location that you select to enter. The sensation of depth and lack of drag as you move your head as you move around 360. The visual house is well laid out and the controllers are so easy to use as you go from one room to the next. The Space Pirate game is a real step up from my last gaming experience on the Mega Drive or Wii. Again graphics and images were very high quality. I think my son will need one of these for Christmas just as he did the racing car track when he was younger. This headset is definitely on my wish list. JOHN M 5/5
